How to enable call encryption on your Yealink phone
With call encryption, the traffic between your device and Voys is secured. This ensures that no one can listen in on your conversation by intercepting the network packets.
Call encryption is enabled by default on the Voys App and Webphone. On other devices call encryption must be configured manually.
Both the SIP packets and the audio itself (RTP) can be encrypted. We use TLS to encrypt the SIP packets. The RTP audio is protected using SRTP.
❗ Note that Voys does not control the security of the data packets after they leave the Voys network. If data is not encrypted by up- or downstream providers (e.g. the receiving operator) or devices, it might still be possible to intercept the call. End-to-end encryption can only be guaranteed when both callers are on the Voys network and call encryption is set up on both devices.
- Log in to Freedom.
- Click on the 'Admin' tab
- Go to 'VoIP account'
- Select the VoIP account with which you want to make encrypted calls.
- Select 'Advanced SIP Settings'
- Check 'Use encryption'
- A pop-up will appear prompting you to change the required phone settings
- Click Acknowledge
- Change the 'Transport protocol' to TLS
- Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click Save
- Encryption on a VoIP Account is indicated by a crescent moon with a lock
- Press the ‘OK’ button to establish the current IP Address.
- Copy the shown IP address in your web browser on your PC.
- Press Enter
- Fill in: Username: voys Password: freedom (If your device is yet to be configured or has been factory reset the username and password will be admin)
- Go to the 'Account' tab
- Click on 'Basic' or 'Register'
- Scroll down to 'Transport'
- Select TLS from the drop-down list
- Scroll down to 'Server Host'
- Enter sip.encryptedsip.com
- Change the 'Port' to 5061
- Press 'Confirm'
- Go to the 'Account' tab
- Click on 'Advanced'
- Scroll down to 'RTP Encryption (SRTP)'
- Select 'Compulsory' from the drop-down list
- Press 'Confirm'
You can now make encrypted calls between your Yealink phone and the Freedom platform!
