How to Configure Your Grandstream Phone (GPX21(20,30,40)

This manual will help you configure your Grandstream phone for use with Freedom, our cloud-hosted PBX.

This configuration is based on the Grandstream GXP1625. Depending on the Grandstream type and the software version, it may look slightly different
💡
Connect the Grandstream device to the network (modem/router/switch/network point) using an Ethernet cable (ensure that your PC is connected to the same network as the Grandstream device)

Locate IP Address

  • Press the Menu button to go into the menu of the phone.
  • Press the down arrow button to “Status” and press the menu button to see the IP address

Configure the phone via Web interface

  • Type the IP address on the screen of your Grandstream into your browser.
  • Log in with the standard password "admin " and then click on Settings.
  • Setting up a VoIP account

  • Click on 'Accounts'.
  • Select 'General Settings' under Account
  • Copy the settings from the screenshots below.
  • Enter the account ID of your VoIP account at " SIP User ID " and " Authentication ID ".
  • Click Save and Apply.

What you will need

Account Name: Extension number i.e 201

SIP Server/ Outbound Proxy:  sip.voys.co.za

Display name: Extension number i.e 201

Authentication Username: Account ID e.g 20112345795

(Can be found on Freedom under Admin >> VoIP Account )

Password: e.g CffhPXaUhNdnsYp

(This can be found on Freedom under Admin >> VoIP Account)

Settings on the Grandstream
  • Go to the 'Accounts' tab
  • Select the 'Account' you would like to configure, i.e. Account 1 or Account
  • Go to 'General Settings'.
  • Click Save and Apply.

Network Settings

  • Fill in the details as displayed below
  • Click Save and Apply. If the 'DNS Mode': SRV doesn't work, select NAPTR/SRV.
  • Click Save and Apply.

Basic Settings

  • Fill in the details below.
  • Ensure that each phone on your network is assigned a unique 'Local SIP Port'. For instance 5071 for extension 201, 5072 for extension 202 etc.
  • Click Save and Apply.

Audio Settings

  • Select PCMA for every 'choice'.
  • Click Save and Apply.

You're done! The telephone icon on the top left-hand side of your screen should now turn green. This means that your phone is configured.
