We have listed the most common function requests for Grandstream phones here. If your specific phone model isn't listed, try following the instructions for a similar model. This approach often works successfully.
If the function you're looking for isn't listed here, Grandstream provides user manuals that are easily found via Google.
Setting up Busy Light Field (BLF) and speed dial
Setting Up Colleague Availability
On your Grandstream device, you can add an extra display to show all your colleagues' phones—handy to see who's available.
- Go to Programmable Keys.
- Choose Extension Boards.
- Start with EXT 1 (see image).
- Mode: Busy Lamp (BLF)
- Account: Account 1 (or another one if you've added more)
- Description: Name of the device or your colleague
- Value: VoIP Account ID
- Go to freedom.voys.co
- Head to Admin
- Then to VoIP Accounts
- Open your colleague's account and copy the Account ID
- Do this for each colleague you want to add
- Don’t forget to hit Save and Apply when you're done!
Setting Up Speed Dial for Colleagues
Same idea as above, but instead of choosing BLF under Mode, pick Speed Dial.
Configure internal ringtone
Want to hear the difference between a call from a colleague and a customer?
Here’s how to set a custom ringtone for internal calls on your desk phone.
- On a computer that’s on the same network as the phone, open a browser and go to the phone’s IP address. You’ll find this on your Grandstream’s screen.
- Go to Accounts
- Click on Account 1
- Then click Call Settings
- Enter alert-internal under Matching Rule
- Pick a ringtone you want to use for internal calls
Change Internal Extension Number
If you’ve changed the internal number of a VoIP account in freedom.voys.co, the number shown on your phone’s display won’t automatically update. That’s because what your phone shows is managed separately from what’s set in Freedom.
- Go to Freedom
- Click on Management
- Go to VoIP Accounts
- Select the VoIP account you want to update (in this example 201/Bet Weter)).
- Update the internal number, for example from 201 to 208
- Click Save
The number is now changed in Freedom, but not yet on your phone. To change what’s shown on the phone display, you’ll need to log in to your phone’s web interface using its IP address. Here's how:
- Your Grandstream's screen shows its IP address
- Enter that IP in your browser
- Log in with admin for both username and password
- Go to Accounts
- Click on Account 1
- Go to General Settings
- Under Account Name, enter the new VoIP account number
- Click Save and Apply
Wrong number showing after transferring a call
Seeing your colleague’s number instead of the customer’s after transferring a call? That’s probably a VoIP account setting.
- Log in at Freedom
- Go to Management
- Click on VoIP Accounts
- Select the correct account
- Go to the Advanced (SIP) Settings tab
- Change Caller ID Header from From SIP Header to Remote Party-ID SIP header
- Hit Save
Still not fixed?
You might need to adjust the setting on the phone itself too.-
Find your IP address
- Your Grandstream display shows its IP address
- Enter it in your browser
- Log in with admin / admin
- Doesn’t work? Newer Grandstreams have the password printed on the device
- Forgot the password? Then a factory reset is your only option
In the web interface, look for the Caller ID Header setting and change it to Remote Party-ID SIP header.
Still stuck? Double-check that the VoIP account settings in Freedom match what’s on the device and experiment with the available Caller ID options.
Setting up Encrypted Calling
What’s encrypted calling?
By default, calls between your phone and Voys’ platform aren’t encrypted. That means the call info and audio travel unprotected over your network and the internet. You can fix this.
With encryption:
- SIP packets are secured with TLS
- The audio (RTP) is protected with SRTP
Let’s set this up.
- Log in at Freedom
- Go to Admin
- Click on VoIP Accounts
- Pick the account you want to encrypt
- Go to Advanced SIP Settings
- Check the box at Force Encryption
- You’ll see a popup—confirm and click Continue
- Scroll down and hit Save
Change the following settings:
- Proxy sip.encryptedsip.com:5061
- Transportprotocol: TLS
To encrypt the actual conversation audio, enable SRTP on the phone. How you do this depends on the phone brand/model—check the manual if needed.
Je kan op de volgende manier snel zien op jouw toestellen versleuteld zijn.
- Log in at Freedom
- Go to Management > VoIP Accounts
- Open the account linked to the device
- If you see a lock icon inside the green dot, encryption is on
- No lock? Then the connection isn’t encrypted (yet)
