While talking to our customers, we’ve come across a few options your Snom phone can do, and we’ve explained them on this page. Keep in mind that there may be differences between phone types. There are more features available, so be sure to check your phone’s manual or search online for additional details.

1. Setting up Busy Lamp Field (BLF) and/or Speed Dial Keys
Want to see if your colleague is available or reach them with just one button press? Use the BLF and/or Speed Dial options via the Function Keys page in your Snom phone’s web interface.
Note: Use Line Key 1 for your own VoIP account. To avoid confusion, do not use this for other applications.
Finding the IP address of the device
- Press the settings button on the device (gear or screwdriver icon).
- Go to Information → System Information.
- Note the IP address shown on the screen.
- Open a web browser on a computer on the same network and go to the IP address.
- Log in with username admin and password admin.
1.1 Setting up BLF
With a BLF (Busy Lamp Field), you can see which colleagues are on a call and call them quickly with one button press.
- Go to Freedom.
- Go to Admin → VoIP account.
- Next to the VoIP account, you’ll see an Account ID. Copy your colleague’s Account ID.
Return to the Snom web interface.
- Click on Function Keys in the left menu.
- Find a free programmable key (e.g. P2 — leave P1 for your own line).
- Under Type, choose Extension.
- Under Number, enter your colleague’s VoIP account ID.
- Under Short Text, enter your colleague’s name.
- Under Context, select Active or the relevant identity.
- Click Save.

The LED of that key will now light up red when your colleague is on a call, and flash when they are being called. Press the key to call them directly.
Warm/Attended Transfer
By default, call transfer uses blind transfer. If you want to speak with your colleague before transferring:
- Click Function Keys in the left menu.
- Find a free key.
- Under Type, choose Key Event.
- Under Number, select Attended Transfer.
- Click Save.
1.2 Setting up Speed Dial
To quickly call an external number, use Speed Dial.
- Click on Function Keys in the left menu.
- Find a free programmable key.
- Under Type, choose Speed Dial.
- Under Number, enter the phone number.
- Under Short Text, enter a label (e.g. the contact name).
- Click Save.

Press and hold the key to dial the number.
2. Do Not Disturb (DND)
Sometimes you don’t want to be disturbed by your phone. You can set your Snom device to Do Not Disturb mode.
- Press the DND button on the phone briefly to enable DND for all identities.
- Press and hold the DND button to enable DND only for the current identity (requires firmware 8.7.3 or higher).
- The display will show “DND activated” and the DND symbol will appear.
- Press the DND button again to turn it off.
3. Call Transfer
When you have a customer on the line and want to transfer them to a colleague, you can do this in two ways.
3.1 Blind Transfer
- During the call, press the Transfer button.
- Dial the phone number or extension of your colleague.
- Press the Transfer button again or put the handset back on the hook.
- The call is now transferred automatically.
3.2 Transfer with Consultation (Attended Transfer)
- During the call, press the Transfer button.
- Dial the phone number or extension of your colleague.
- Wait for your colleague to answer — you can speak with them before transferring.
- The first caller will be on hold during this time.
- Press the Transfer button again to complete the transfer.
4. Setting up an Address Book
4.1 Adding a contact directly on the phone
- Press the Directory or Menu button.
- Go to Directory → New Entry.
- Enter the contact details.
- Press Save.
4.2 Importing contacts via the web interface
Finding the IP address of the device
- Press the settings button on the device (gear or screwdriver icon).
- Go to Information → System Information.
- Note the IP address and open it in a browser.
- Log in with admin / admin.
- Go to Directory in the left menu.
- Click Browse to select a .xml file from your computer.
- Click Import.
- Click Export to download your current contacts as a file.
Note: This is the only way to retrieve your address list from your Snom device. We do not store this information.
5. Internal ringtone
Do you want to hear from the ringtone whether you’re being called by a colleague or a customer?
- Open the web interface (see IP address instructions above).
- Go to Setup → Preferences.
- Click on the Audio tab.
- Verify that Alert Internal Text is set to
alert-internal. Change it if needed. - Under Alert Internal Ringer, select the ringtone to play for internal calls.
- Click Save.
6. Firmware Update
To use all features of your Snom phone, it’s important to use the latest firmware.
- Open the web interface (see IP address instructions above).
- Go to Setup → Advanced → Update.
- Under Firmware, enter the firmware URL or upload the file directly.
- Click Load or Upload.

Do not close the web interface and keep the device powered on until the home screen reappears. The device may restart automatically.

7. Anonymous Calling
7.1 Enabling anonymous calling
- Pick up the handset.
- Press the Menu key.
- Go to Features → Anonymous.
- Enable anonymous calling.
7.2 Disabling anonymous calling
- Repeat the steps above and disable the setting.
7.3 Anonymous calling via your VoIP account
- Log in to Freedom.
- Go to Admin → Users.
- Click on the user account your Snom device is linked to.
- Go to Outgoing calls.
- For Outgoing phone number, select Suppress (anonymous).
- Click Save.

8. Change the internal number on a Snom
If you’ve updated the internal number of a VoIP account in Freedom, the number shown on your phone’s display won’t automatically update.
Step 1 — Update the internal number in Freedom
- Go to Freedom.
- Go to Admin → VoIP account.
- Select the VoIP account you want to update.
- Change the internal extension number.
- Click Save.
Step 2 — Update the display on your Snom
- Open the web interface (see IP address instructions above).
- Click on Identity 1 → Login tab.
- Under Display name, enter the new internal number.
- Click Apply.
9. Factory Reset
Note: The following steps apply to Snom D1, D3, 7, D7, and 8 series. For other models, a factory reset may be possible via network recovery.
- Press * # on the keypad.
- Press and hold the # key to reboot the phone.
- Keep holding # until you see Rescue Mode.
- Press 1 for a settings reset.
- Press any key when prompted to reboot.
Caution: Do not power off the phone during startup.
10. Encrypt your Snom
By default, conversations between your device and the Voys telephony platform are unencrypted. With encryption, your calls are secured between your phone and our platform — no one can intercept them by capturing network traffic. We use TLS for SIP packets and SRTP for audio.
Step 1 — Enable encryption in Freedom
- Log in to Freedom.
- Click Admin in the menu bar.
- Go to VoIP account.
- Select the account you want to use for encrypted calling.
- Go to the Advanced SIP settings tab.
- Check the box next to Force Encryption.
- Click Continue in the popup that appears.
- Click Save at the bottom of the page.
Step 2 — Set up encryption on the device
- Open the web interface of the device (see steps 1 and 2 above).
- Click Identity 1 and go to the Login tab.
- Enter the following for Registrar and Outbound Proxy:
sip.encryptedsip.com:5061;transport=tls - Click Apply.
- Go to the RTP tab.
- Enter
pcma, g722, g729in the Codec field. - Set RTP/SAVP to mandatory.
- Click Apply.
Check if the device is encrypted
- Log in to Freedom.
- Go to Admin → VoIP account.
- If there is a padlock in the green dot next to the account, it is encrypted.
