Making a call
Making calls works similarly to making calls on your regular mobile phone. You can start a call from:
- The contacts list.
- Recent calls.
- Shared contacts.
- The numeric Keypad.
Transferring a call
You can transfer an active call to an internal or external number. This is always a warm transfer — you speak with the receiving person before completing the transfer.
- Tap Transfer.
- Enter the phone number or name you want to transfer to (this can be both an internal- or external number).
- Tap the green button.
- When the second person picks up, you can speak privately — the original caller won’t hear this.
- Tap Merge calls to complete the transfer.
Contacts
Permission
To use all features of the contacts list, the app needs permission to access your phone’s contacts. Grant this when downloading the app, or later via your phone’s settings.
If the contacts list isn’t syncing after granting permission, reinstall the app and grant permission during setup.
Personal contacts
The Contacts tab shows all contacts from your phone. These are only visible to you — your colleagues can’t see them.
Shared Contacts
Shared contacts are visible to all your colleagues. Find them under Contacts → Shared.
Add a shared contact:
- Tap Contacts → Shared.
- Tap Add shared contact.
- Fill in the contact details.
- Tap Save contact.
Do you use Google Contacts? Try Import contacts
Edit a shared contact
- Tap the contact.
- Tap Edit in the top right.
- Update the details.
- Tap Save.
Delete a shared contact
- Tap the contact.
- Tap Edit in the top right.
- Tap Delete, then confirm.
Add a contact without sharing it
Add it directly to your phone’s contact list. It will appear under Contacts, not under Shared.
It’s not currently possible to convert a shared contact into a personal contact. Delete it from shared contacts and add it to your phone’s contact list instead.
Shared contact calls but I only see their number, not their name
iOS: Go to Settings → Phone → Block and identify callers → toggle the Voys app to green.
Android: This can’t be changed at the moment. It will be addressed in a future update.
Colleagues availability
Under Contacts → Colleagues you can see your colleagues and their availability at a glance:
Use the toggle at the bottom to show all colleagues or only those currently online. Tap a colleague’s name and then their internal number to call them.
Recents
The Recent tab
In the recent calls list, you can switch between two views:
- Personal — calls directed to you
- All — all calls for your company
Don’t see these tabs? Enable them:
- Tap Profile → App preferences.
- Scroll to Recents.
- Enable Show tab with all calls.
You can also filter to show only missed calls.
View your call list in Freedom
You can also find your call list in Freedom.
- Click on Profile.
- Click on your company name.
- Click on Calls.
This is only visible if you’re in the admin or call details permission group.
Profile
Setting your availability
- Open the Voys app.
- Tap Profile.
Available
You’re available on the app and can receive calls.
Available for colleagues only
You’re available on the app and can receive calls, but only for your colleagues.
Do not disturb
- Tap Do not disturb.
- You won’t receive internal calls from colleagues.
- To become available again, tap Available.
Offline
You are offline.
Available, but not on the app
If you want to receive calls on a different device or VoIP account instead of the app:
- Tap one of the other destination options.
- You can choose from all destinations linked to your user account. If a destination is missing, you can add it there.
- You’re still reachable internally via the app by your colleagues.
Want to switch between destinations for incoming calls? Set yourself up as a user in the dial plan.
App preferences
Tap Profile → App preferences to access the following settings.
Calling
- Use VoIP — makes calls via the internet using your business number. When disabled, calls go via Call Through instead.
- Call mobile number if incoming VoIP call fails — if you don’t have access to the internet.
- Always run in background (Android only) — enabled by default, can only be turned off via your phone’s battery settings. Keep this on to avoid missing calls.
- Show in phone’s recents (iPhone only) — your Voys calls are also visible in your phone’s native call list. Disable this if you only want calls in the app.
- Show shared contacts for calls to your 06 number — See names of shared contacts.
Recents
Choose whether to see all calls from your entire organization or only your own.
Audio
Choose between the Voys ringtone or your phone’s default ringtone.
Debugging
Turn on Remote Logging when you’re experiencing unexpected issues. This lets us see how the app is behaving. Only app data is collected — nothing else.
When you click your name
Here you can change your:
Mobile number
Email address
Password
Your outgoing number
If you have multiple phone numbers linked to your account, you can switch between them.
You must have admin rights to be able to do this.
- Click on Profile.
- Click on your username (under App Preferences).
- You’ll see which business number you’re currently calling from.
- Tap the pencil icon to switch to a different number.
Company settings
- Tap Profile → your company name.
- Here you can set up a temporary redirect.
- You’ll also find links that take you directly to Freedom.

Call quality and WiFi
The Voys app calls via your smartphone’s internet connection — 5G or WiFi. Calling via 5G is preferred for the best call quality.
WiFi can cause issues with call quality. With a WiFi connection, calls are more likely to stutter, have delays, or drop completely — even on a fast network. If this happens, turn off WiFi during the call. The app will automatically switch to 5G. You can do this while the call is in progress, on both Android and iOS.
This can also happen if you have a very fast and well-functioning WiFi network.
Call Through
Sometimes your internet connection is too poor for a VoIP call. In that case, you can still make outgoing calls with your business number using Call Through.
- Enter the phone number you want to call.
- Tap call.
- Your mobile provider calls an 085 number from Voys.
- Tap call again.
Our 085 number then forwards the call to the number you dialed. The person you’re calling will see your business number — not the 085 number.
We cover the forwarding costs. The cost of calling the 085 number is charged by your mobile provider and is usually included in your calling plan.
Heads up: Outside the EU, roaming charges from your mobile provider may apply.
Call Through and call recording
Calls made via Call Through are not recorded. Call recording works via VoIP accounts or a trunk — Call Through bypasses that setup entirely.
