Two-step verification, also known as 'two-factor authentication', is used to make your Freedom account more secure. With two-step verification, you first log in with your username and password. Then you enter a token (code), which is a temporary and automatically generated code that you receive through an app such as Google Authenticator or Authy. After entering the token, you are logged in to Freedom. Below, you can read how to set this up in Freedom.
Setting up two-step verification
Go to Freedom
- Log in with your username and password
- Click on 'Personal' in the upper right corner, and then on 'Personal settings
- Click on 'Enable 2FA' for 'two-step verification
- Scan the QR code with an app like Google Authenticator or Authy on your mobile phone.
- Enter the code you see on your phone into Token.
After setting up your token generator (Google Authenticator or Authy), you can generate backup codes. We recommend keeping these codes in a safe place.
These codes give you access to your account if you do not have the token generator available.
Disabling two-step verification
Two-step verification can be turned off in Freedom. Click on 'Personal' in the upper right corner, and then on 'Personal Settings’. Click on 'Disable two-step verification'. It is also possible for administrators to turn off two-step verification for other colleagues. We advise only doing this if you are sure that the colleague requested this themselves
What is (currently) not possible?
- Forcing two-step verification for all colleagues
- Remembering two-step verification for each used device, so you do not have to perform two-step verification each time you log in from the same device
- Setting up or changing two-step verification for other colleagues
- Using the API (which requires logging in to Freedom) when two-step verification is set up for your User
